Rack roof or trunk for my bike?
Trek Road vehicle and Mercury / Mariner (SUV) with factory installed gallery. This photo of my car, http://www.mercuryvehicles.com/mariner/exterior.asp I am interested in this topic (Thule 969 Thruway 3-Bike Trunk Rack) for PerformanceBike http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU = subcategory_id = 23,639 & 4412 I'm afraid I'll lose the bike on the interstate. In fact, the degree of security and protection of these "stem Racks" are they? The horse only clips with the trunk. " Are they reliable, or may cause serious multi-car accident, fall? What about motorcycles and car painting? Is safe for kids? Have you used (trunk) without any incident that falls? I hitch. So the other option will be "Roof". I'm 5'7 ", How is difficult to load / unload the bicycle roof SUV?
You can get a trailer hitch for Mariner at least $ 150. If you do not want do it yourself, you can go to the U-Haul and have them install a hitch for you. Hitch rack rack will be much stronger than the tether strap to the trunk, and will much easier to load and unload a trunk. I remember responding to your earlier question about the roof rails. All I can say is that my old '96 Jeep Cherokee head shorter than the Mariner, and I have problems loading my Yakima roof rack in the jeep.
