How does a hockey helmet supposed to fit? (a child)?

My son took hockey lessons for beginners and from we do not know much about the sport, but I'm not sure that would have bought the right size helmet. There is an average size of 6 years old, so I purchased a thought for the little extra tight or would not last long if it did not fit. When we adjust the straps and tightens, but has some flexibility, that will not fall over eyes or anything. If tight fit? Would it be good just to buy these foam inserts for helmets to prevent movement? Thanks for your answers in advance!
